Happy holidays!
I'm Trevor and I created this website because I love Christmas in San Francisco. Holidays are often a time when we feel the financial crunch of living in SF a little bit more, so I have created this list of events to help ease some of that stress and create an easy way to find a diverse range of activities (a lot of which are free) to celebrate this winter season. It's ultimately about building community and celebrating this place. After COVID, getting back to the things that humans do to celebrate the bleakest, darkest, and coldest/most-isolating month is all the more important to celebrate. I'd appreciate any input you have about low cost family friendly events I've missed. I've been working on this list since 2010. I am always learning new things - please connect with me to share any additional holiday things I should add (but please read below, I can't include everything!) Most of these holiday events are family and San Francisco-focused. I also am trying to show only events that are free or really special. Also, reoccurring events like the Nutcrackers, zoo lights, or ice skating are usually not included because they are repeated events and would take up too much space. I'll add a page with them once I figure out html (-: I can't possibly have all events on here - the events outside of the City or that cost a lot that I DID choose include I did so because they seem special or interesting. While the focus is on family and a holiday season centered around a Gregorian calendar and northern-hemisphere winter, I try to include as much to celebrate the diversity of the Bay Area as possible but acknowledge there are inherent biases in the list - again, please email me so I can increase the breadth of this tool. Kwanza, Christmas, Hanukah, Parol, the Solstice, and many other holidays in San Francisco are celebrated here the best I can do! Again, I have no goal of making money from this at all - I DO think it would be fun in years coming up to create a "storehouse" of donated tickets etc to events and share them with families who might not be able to afford tickets to the Nutcracker or ice stake rentals or pictures with Santa. Many of us end up with a lot of extra things over the Season - please email me if you have extras to give away - if I end up going I'd love to review and create buzz, but I also want to start networking with family shelters etc. to see if there are ways to spread the generosity! |
